Grateful

This group came at exactly the right time for me. As an expat mum, it’s the first space where I’ve felt genuinely understood. Angela creates such a calm, safe, and honest environment, and it never feels forced. It’s comforting, grounding, and reminds you that you’re not alone. There are weekly live calls for people to come and go for a casual chat and the classroom (Library) is full of useful resources. So grateful I found it. 💜

Looking for an authentic community - this is it!

Being a mother four children, experiencing a move abroad, a divorce, removing myself from a stifling religious community and relocating back to an area that I have struggled to connect with has made a group like this priceless. These are massive life events, that affect us deeply and yet there is still so much shame, guilt, and concealment when we really need to feel all the feelings, be vulnerable and authentic and seek others that understand and can help provide support. The struggle of building a community of people that can help you navigate through life’s storms, challenges and our own evolution is compounded when we lose our ‘community.’ Raising Change Globally offers a place for us to find our people, take them with us wherever we go, at whatever stage we are in and connect in a way that is real and honest.

Community details

Written by the community owners

An easy going, supportive community for expat mums who want something deeper than surface-level connection. It’s a space for honest conversations about identity, belonging, parenting, and life on the expat trail, alongside a growing menu of tools you can dip into as and when you need, from coaching and mindfulness to childhood and youth development. Take what works for you, leave the rest.

Mission & Values

My mission is to create a calm, supportive space for expat mums to feel seen, understood, and less alone, a place where they can reflect, grow, and reconnect with themselves at their own pace, without pressure or performance.

1. Calm over noise We don’t overwhelm, rush, or shout. This is a place to slow down, think clearly, and hear yourself again.

2. Depth over surface We’re not here just to share tips or stay busy. We make space for real conversations, reflection, and the emotional reality of expat life.

3. Belonging without performance You don’t need to prove anything here. You can show up quietly, loudly, often, or rarely, and you still belong.

4. Gentle, self-led growth Growth here is slow, steady, and personal. You dip in, step back, and return when you’re ready. There is no “falling behind.”

5. Respect for lived experience There is no one right way to do expat life or parenting. We honour different paths, different boats, in the same ocean.

6. Support, not fixing Support means listening, sharing, and walking alongside, not rescuing, pushing, or telling anyone who they should be.

Who Is This For?

Not For

  • Expat mums who are mainly looking for a surface-level social group, where things stay light and practical and don’t go much deeper.
  • Expat mums who want a busy, fast-moving space with lots of pressure to post, comment, or keep up.
  • Anyone looking for one clear answer or a “right way” to do expat life, parenting, or personal growth.
  • Fixing yourself, forcing positivity, or pretending that life abroad is easy all the time.
  • Those who aren’t open to a little reflection, curiosity, or gentle self-growth alongside the day-to-day realities of family life overseas.

Perfect For

  • Expat mums who want a deeper, calmer space to explore the emotional side of living abroad, not just the practical stuff.
  • Mums who are curious about themselves and their children, and who want to learn more about child development, mindfulness, and personal growth in a supportive way.
  • Women who like knowing there’s no pressure to join in, no fear of falling behind, and no expectation to show up perfectly.
  • Mothers raising children across cultures who are carrying a lot that isn’t always seen, and who would love a steady, gentle place to land.
  • Expat mums who value kindness, active listening, and mutual support, whether they feel like sharing or just quietly being part of the community.

Key Benefits

  • A calm, supportive space created especially for expat mums, where you don’t have to explain why life abroad can feel both amazing and hard at the same time.
  • Gentle support for your own growth, alongside thoughtful information about child development, parenting, and emotional wellbeing.
  • Mindfulness tools and simple practices that fit into real life, not something else to add to your to-do list.
  • A community with no pressure to show up, post, or participate in any particular way — you’re welcome to share, listen, or just be here.
  • A place to feel seen, understood, and less alone as you raise children across cultures and figure out who you are in the process too.

Community Culture

This community is calm, welcoming, and supportive. It’s a space for expat mums to slow down, take a breath, and show up as they are, with no pressure to post, perform, or keep up. The vibe is easy and thoughtful, with space for honest conversations about both the challenges and the joys of expat life. Nothing needs to be shared if it doesn’t feel right for you. You’ll find a collection of coaching and mindfulness tools, simple practices, and information on childhood and youth, all designed to support self-growth at your own pace. There isn’t a course you have to complete, you’re free to dip in, take what’s helpful, and leave the rest. I’m here to offer guidance, share tools, and support you when it feels helpful, but this isn’t a programme you have to follow or keep up with. It’s a self-guided space where you can explore things in your own time, in a way that fits your real life.

Angela Walker

Hi, I’m Angela. I lived overseas for over 30 years, across 11 different countries, and raised my children while navigating all the ups and downs of expat life. I’ve been the trailing spouse, the expat mum, and the one holding things together through a lot of change. My background is in childhood and youth studies, with a focus on neuro development, mindfulness, and emotional wellbeing. I created this space to offer calm, depth, and gentle support for expat mums. I’m really glad you’re here. 🩷🧡
