CLUES is a special place because of its unique charismatic leader. Ruben ensures an utmost level of integration and organization of all the parts that go into a fleshed out, thriving community. I joined DAfree because I wanted to understand more about what abuse can look like in everyday life. I thought I knew the basics, but this community opened my eyes to things I hadn’t really considered, like how control can happen without shouting or hitting. It’s quiet, respectful, and there’s no pressure to talk about your own experiences. You can just read and learn at your own pace. Awareness is indeed the first step, and the more AWARER we become, the more we can spot the signs and help those affected by domestic abuse.
