How do I rank in AI Overviews?

There is no separate trick for ranking in AI Overviews. Google says ordinary SEO is the whole plan, plus one Search Console setting: keep your site included in Search generative AI features. Your page has to be indexed and eligible to show in Google Search with a snippet.
Google also says structured data isn't required and you don't need to write in a special way. For you that means a service page that helps a visitor, which costs an afternoon of your time and no monthly fee.
The catch is that doing all of it guarantees nothing. Google says indexing and serving isn't guaranteed, so be wary of anyone who sells you a spot in an AI answer.
Does Google have a separate way to rank in AI Overviews?
No. Google's AI guide says optimizing for generative AI search is still SEO, and its AI features page says no other special optimizations are necessary. The one thing to check is that your site is included in Search generative AI features in Search Console, which is the default.
Google says SEO best practices continue to be relevant. If your page already shows in regular Google results with a snippet, it clears the bar.
What does my service page need?
It needs to be indexed and able to show with a snippet, and it needs to help the person reading it. Google's advice is to focus on what visitors would find helpful and feel satisfied with.
For a service business, that means the service named plainly, the towns you cover, how pricing works and how to call or book. A page a neighbor can read and then phone you from is the target.
What can I ignore?
Ignore anything sold as a special AI Overviews fix. Google says you don't need new machine readable files, AI text files, markup or Markdown to appear in Google Search.
It also says there's no requirement to break your content into tiny pieces. Ask any seller who disagrees to show you the Google page that says so.
Does my Google Business Profile matter?
Yes, for local map results. Google says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance, and popularity, and that more reviews and positive ratings can help.
That is Google's local ranking guidance. It doesn't say the same factors decide who appears in an AI Overview, so treat the profile as a map-results job.
What do I do next?
Pick your best-paying service and write or fix its page this week. Then read how to show up in AI search and what to buy or skip in AI SEO.
If you don't have a site yet, see ProveWorth websites. ProveWorth also gives you a free page for your customers' reviews, which we read before publishing. You can get your free page or see how it works.

Do I need special markup to appear in AI Overviews?
No. Google says structured data isn't required for generative AI search and there's no special schema.org markup to add.
Does blocking Google-Extended remove me from Google Search?
No. Google says Google-Extended does not impact a site's inclusion in Google Search and isn't a ranking signal there.
Why can't I find the AI report in Search Console?
Google says the report can be missing when your site hasn't had enough impressions in generative AI features, or when you have excluded your site. It reports impressions, so don't expect AI clicks from it.
Does my Google Business Profile matter?
Yes, for local map results. Google says more reviews and positive ratings can help local ranking. That is local guidance, not a statement about AI Overviews.
