Crust & Crumb Academy is an amazing place where people love to share and help each other bake. Whether you are new or experienced, this is the place to learn. I started out with only making sourdough breads, but now I have made baguettes, ciabatta, pretzel loafs and many more. I highly recommend this skill building baking community.

Crust & Crumb Academy - More Than Bread: A Community That Inspires

I came for sourdough… and stayed for the community!

Crust & Crumb Academy first showed up on my YouTube feed back in March 2026 while I was searching for ways to bake homemade sourdough bread. I had absolutely no experience baking bread. Honestly, I never had the patience for it. It was far easier to buy bread at the store than to learn how to make it myself.

But when my favorite sourdough disappeared from the shelves, I started searching for recipes to recreate it at home… and that search sent me straight down the rabbit hole of sourdough baking.

Somewhere along the way, Henry Hunter’s community, Crust & Crumb Academy, popped up. I saved the page for later because the information he shared was incredibly helpful. But I assumed the academy would probably be expensive, and with everything else going on in life and health, I really didn’t want to add one more paid program to my plate.

Then I clicked the link.

I kept looking for the cost… and couldn’t find one.

Finally, I hit “Join” and realized there was absolutely no cost at all.

Instead, I found free education, endless resources, and a genuine community—with no sales pitch and no catch.

What I found was one of the warmest, most generous, uplifting online communities I’ve experienced in a very long time.

There’s laughter. Friendship. Encouragement. Education. Real connection.

And the best part? You can actually talk to Henry himself. Ask questions. Get advice. Learn the art of baking—not just sourdough, but enriched breads, yeasted breads, ciabatta, poolish methods, different starters, fermentation techniques, and so much more. The amount of knowledge shared inside this community is incredible.

I originally joined just wanting to learn sourdough.

What I found instead was a group of like-minded people who genuinely enjoy helping one another grow.

The Saturday bake-along is one highlight of the week. Henry guides everyone through the process with prep instructions throughout the week so you know exactly what to expect and what you’ll need. Then, during the actual bake-along, the community comes alive—people sharing wins, struggles, questions, photos, frustrations, breakthroughs, and encouragement in real time.

Henry steers the ship beautifully, but he also gives the community room to truly be a community.

That’s what makes this place special.

One of Henry’s sayings is: “Perfection is not required. Progress is.”

You can feel that spirit throughout the entire academy.

I deeply appreciate Henry’s generosity, his love for people, his passion for baking, and the way he genuinely listens to the community. Henry welcomes suggestions. Questions get answered. Nobody feels forgotten. Everyone matters here.

Personally, I’ve learned so much already—hydration levels, starter care, fermentation timing, dough handling, shaping, troubleshooting… things I never imagined I would understand or enjoy.

And my favorite so far?

Ciabatta.

I absolutely love working with high-hydration dough now. Never in a million years did I think dough would be so fun to work with, but it truly is. Baking has become incredibly therapeutic for me.

Had a rough day?

Go make bread. Grab a cup of coffee (or favorite drink) and meet with community members who quickly become friends.

There’s something deeply satisfying about pulling a beautiful loaf from the oven with a crust you never thought you could create yourself.

If you’re looking to learn how to bake—or simply longing for genuine community in a world that desperately needs more of this — I cannot recommend Crust & Crumb Academy enough.

This is more than bread making.

It’s community at its finest.

Stacey, thank you. The fact that you came in skeptical and stuck around long enough to tell this story matters more than you know. Welcome home. Henry ⭐🔥

The whole concept is great and I'm learning more about sourdough.

The whole concept is great and I'm learning more about sourdough. I tried the pancakes yesterday and they were a hit. The pretzel bread is very good just a lot of steps.

This online community feels like a community! Everyone is friendly, encouraging, welcoming, and active. The best part is getting to share all our wins, failures, and feedback as we tackle the joyful challenge of baking all kinds of bread.

The Learning and the Love are Real!

The Learning and the Love are Real!

"What were you struggling with before you joined Crust & Crumb Academy, and what changed?": I'm learning to bake more nutritiously with regeneratively-grown grains and beans, but a great loaf of yeasted bread eluded me. I also live at high altitude, making anything that rises a challenge. I get vertigo from alcohol (i.e. from too much fermentation). Trying to pull all this together on my own, using Internet searches and hit-and-miss social media groups was not getting the job done.
"What's one thing you baked inside the Academy that you never thought you could pull off?": I've engaged in one Saturday Bake, where we made a marbled loaf using colored doughs. It never would have crossed my mind to try something like that, but I was successful and learned so much in the process about coloring agents, dough structure, moisture variables and more, and it was fun to experience this as a group, and also with true attention from our leader/instructor Henry.
"How would you describe the feedback and support you get here compared to other baking groups?": In this group, people are exceptionally kind-hearted. The leader is attentive, mindful, knowledgeable and yet open to discover and learn more himself. In other groups, I was given phrases like, "Just follow the recipe" (which wasn't written in or for my context). I want to understand the "why" of things so that I can adapt to my situation, and Henry's approach to teaching is all about the why.
"What would you tell someone who's on the fence about joining?": This is a safe space; an open-hearted community of learners led by someone with real-life breadmaking experience and A.I.-assisted presentation skills. Henry is real, genuine and full of love for the craft and his students' success.

This community is amazing!

This community is amazing! About 6 months ago, I discovered the pleasure of bread making. I have actively been looking on youtube for example and recipes from which were really good and other disappointing. And then, 2 weeks ago, I discovered Henry Hunter on youtube and I immediately good hooked in this community. The content in the classroom is invaluable and explain in a simple way the bread making process. And what about this community !!! Extremely positive, encouraging and helpful! I have progressed more in 2 weeks that I did in the last year! Coming home after a workday, I just think about baking a new bread and the saturday bake along challenge! Perfection not required! Progress is!😀

"What were you struggling with before you joined Crust & Crumb Academy, and what changed?": Finding reliable information out there!
"What's one thing you baked inside the Academy that you never thought you could pull off?": Sourdough Whole Wheat Bread with an ear. Still in progress but I had a small ear on my last loaf.
"How would you describe the feedback and support you get here compared to other baking groups?": I do not know. It is my only group.
"What would you tell someone who's on the fence about joining?": Get in, it is free, lots of valuable content and a lot of fun! Perfect to discover a new passion!

I got into sourdough later in life, and one thing I’ve learned is that where you learn matters just as much as what you learn.

What I appreciate about Crust & Crumb Academy is that it’s not just people posting pictures of bread… it’s people trying to understand the process. There’s a real focus on why things work, not just what to do next.

You can feel that in the conversations. People are helping each other think, not just follow instructions. That kind of environment makes a big difference, especially for beginners.

It reminds me a lot of how I approach teaching… simplify things, focus on the fundamentals, and let the dough do the talking.

If you’re serious about improving, it’s a good place to spend your time.

"What were you struggling with before you joined Crust & Crumb Academy, and what changed?": I don’t have much experience with enriched dough.
"What's one thing you baked inside the Academy that you never thought you could pull off?": Jalapeño & cheddar cheese sourdough bread.
"How would you describe the feedback and support you get here compared to other baking groups?": I’ve never been in a sourdough website as friendly as this one. Nobody is telling anyone they don’t know what they’re talking about. It’s all pretty friendly positive dialog.
"What would you tell someone who's on the fence about joining?": If you want to learn how sourdough and other breads really work… this is your landing spot. You can follow recipes anywhere.

The Gold Standard for Home Bakers (and it's free!)!!

I'm in shock that a community this high-quality is actually free. Having a pro like Henry Hunter actually engage with the community and answer questions is a level of value you usually have to pay a premium for. The Recipe pantry and custom tools like the Yeast Converter are game-changers for any home kitchen. The Academy has everything a home baker needs to go from a novice to a pro! I love the culture of "Progress over Perfection", as the mission is about genuine learning not just "Instagram-worthy" results. And the amount of AMAZING Recipes is also a plus!! I haven't been able to join the "Saturday-bake-a-long" yet, but I love that idea, and will be joining one soon! Whether you are a total beginner or a seasoned baker looking for a better tribe, this is the #1 place to be!! I can't recommend it enough!

BEFORE:
A lover of all things Sourdough, but intimidated.
AFTER:
I haven't been a member long, however, I already have more confidence in myself, and my bakes.
"What were you struggling with before you joined Crust & Crumb Academy, and what changed?": Confidence. What changed was the feeling of joy when my family gobbled up the whole loaf of bread before I could even get a slice! And the only reason it was that good, was because of the awesome recipe and very helpful instructions.
"What would you tell someone who's on the fence about joining?": This is the #1 place to be!!
