Key Takeaways

  • 1Appeal through Google's appeals tool. Appeals can only be submitted once, so gather your evidence before you open it.
  • 2Read the reason the tool shows, fix anything that was actually wrong, and attach records whose name and address match your profile.
  • 3Evidence is optional in the tool. Registration, a business license, tax certificates and utility bills are the examples Google gives.
  • 4Appeal reviews take up to 5 business days, and Google emails the decision.
  • 5Don't create a new profile for the same business, and don't send several appeals for one issue.

A suspended Business Profile gets fixed through Google's appeals tool, and Google says appeals can only be submitted once. So build the case first. Read the reason in the tool, correct anything that was actually wrong, attach records that match your profile, then submit. Don't create a second profile.

Nobody can promise you a reinstatement date, including anyone you might hire to handle it. Get it right, and go once.

What exactly did Google restrict?

Find out first, because the fix depends on it. Google restricts several different things, and each one has its own route.

What happenedWhere you appeal
The profile is suspended or disabledThe Business Profile appeals tool
Your whole Google Account is restrictedAppeal the account from your My accounts page first, then appeal the profile
An edit to your name, category, address, phone or website was rejectedIn the UK and EEA, the appeals tool. Elsewhere, Google's contact form
A post, photo or video was restrictedIn the UK and EEA, the appeals tool. Elsewhere, Google's contact form

If the profile itself is suspended or disabled, Google says it must be reinstated before you can appeal any content decision. An account restriction suspends every profile under the account, so lift that first.

Why does Google suspend a profile?

Google says it may suspend or disable profiles that don't follow its guidelines. The notice in your appeals tool names the actual reason, and that beats any guess from a forum.

Google's guidelines do point to some common problems. Unnecessary information in the business name can lead to suspension. A virtual office that isn't staffed during business hours isn't an eligible address. And Google says there should be one page for each location of your business.

Eligibility matters too. A business needs in-person contact with customers during its stated hours, so online-only businesses and lead generation companies don't qualify. Service-area businesses should hide their address from customers.

Treat those as places to look. Your own notice decides what's true for your profile.

What should I fix before I appeal?

Fix what's actually broken, in this order.

  1. Save the paperwork. Keep the notification, your profile URL and the Google Account you manage it from.
  2. Read the cited policy. The tool links to the policy Google says you broke.
  3. Correct real problems. A keyword stuffed into the name, an address you don't serve customers from, a second profile for the same location. Write down what you changed, with the date.
  4. Stay on the one profile. Don't create a replacement for the same business.

Fix first, because the appeal can only go in once.

How does the appeal itself work?

You file it in Google's appeals tool. Pick the profile and the decision, add optional evidence, tick the box confirming everything is attached, and submit. Google says review can take up to 5 business days, and the decision comes by email.

The records that help are the ones Google lists: official business registration, a business license, tax certificates and utility bills. Names and addresses on them should match your Business Profile. A registration and a matching utility bill beat a folder of everything you own.

Use the text box for a short, true account of what you corrected. Here's the shape, which only works if each line is accurate:

The profile showed an address where customers are not served. We corrected the service-area setup. The attached records establish the real operating business.

The click-by-click steps, the five statuses and what to do after a denial are in how to appeal a Google Business Profile suspension.

Should I make a new profile instead?

No. Google's instruction is not to create a new Business Profile for the same business. A second profile is the same problem again. It can also mean two pages for one location, which Google's guidelines rule out.

Stay with the profile you have and finish the appeal.

Is there a faster path for 10 or more suspended profiles?

Yes. If you manage more than 10 profiles, the tool asks, "Are you requesting bulk reinstatement for 10 or more suspended locations?" Select Yes, then Continue.

Attach a spreadsheet with the Business Profile ID for each suspended location, plus supporting documents. The business name and address on each document must exactly match your registration. The status only changes for the profile you selected, and you get one email with the decision.

When do I need more help than an appeal?

An ownership dispute or a legal question calls for a specialist, and a bigger evidence folder won't settle it. For a duplicate profile or an owner conflict, start with Google's page on resolving duplicate profiles and ownership issues.

To prevent a repeat, audit your profile and check how verification works.

What do I do next?

Open your notice, save it, and write down what Google says went wrong. Then start the evidence folder. You don't have to finish today. You do have to finish before you submit.

Customers still look for you while the profile is down. ProveWorth gives you a free page of your own where reviews are published, so there's somewhere to send people. Get your free page, or see how it works.
